Add Insulation

If your attic is uninsulated, you can significantly improve the climate control of your home by laying fiberglass rolls or installing blown-in insulation. When laying new insulation, remember to use unfaced material and place it at least 6 inches from the ceiling joists, in order to avoid creating a vapor retarder barrier (which is required by some building codes). Avoid overlapping insulation to prevent gaps where air can enter or escape. Also, be sure to avoid laying insulation over recessed light fixtures or soffit vents (unless they are rated IC, for insulated ceilings).
